FT633 - Omiyage Kokeshi coming from Yokoo Sansō 横尾山荘
A vintage Japanese Omiyage Kokeshi keychain originating from Yokoo Sansō (横尾山荘), a well-known mountain lodge in the Japanese Alps, located in the Kamikōchi area of Nagano Prefecture.
This miniature wooden kokeshi features a sweet, hand-painted face with delicate black eyes, rosy lips, and a traditional red floral kimono. The doll is nestled inside a beautifully patterned fabric covering, resembling a protective travelling cloak, decorated with geometric and floral motifs in muted blue, cream, and brown.
A small silver-coloured bell and orange hanging cord complete the design, making it a delightful example of vintage Japanese souvenir craftsmanship.
Yokoo Sansō is a historic mountain lodge situated in the Northern Japanese Alps, serving as an important resting point for hikers exploring the spectacular mountain landscapes around Kamikōchi, including routes towards Mount Yari and the Hotaka mountain range.
Souvenir kokeshi such as this were traditionally sold at Japanese tourist destinations, mountain lodges, and hot spring resorts as keepsakes of memorable journeys. These miniature dolls combine the charm of Japanese folk art with the nostalgic culture of domestic travel during the Shōwa era.
