This 清水焼 (Kiyomizu-yaki) plate by Tachikichi(たち吉) reflects the brand’s signature balance of tradition and contemporary tableware design. Tachikichi founded in 1752 (mid-Edo period) in Kyoto, it is one of Japan’s most respected producers and retailers of ceramics and tableware. With over 260 years of history, the brand became known for blending traditional Kyoto aesthetics with modern functional design, making their pieces popular both in Japan and abroad.

Crafted in Kyoto, the plate features a warm, earthy brown glaze with a finely textured surface that highlights the natural character of the clay. Subtle variations in tone and firing marks give the piece depth and individuality, while the shallow, wide form makes it both visually appealing and highly functional. Accents of muted green glaze applied at intervals along the rim create a rhythmic, understated decoration that draws the eye without overpowering the overall simplicity.

The form is gently curved, with a stable foot and a softly sloping interior, making it suitable for serving seasonal dishes, appetizers, or sweets. True to Kiyomizu-yaki aesthetics, the plate embraces slight irregularities and kiln effects as part of its charm, embodying a quiet wabi-sabi sensibility.

Produced by Tachikichi—an established Kyoto ceramics house known for translating classical techniques into modern living—this plate is a refined yet approachable example of everyday Japanese craftsmanship, equally suited for use or display.
