This striking Sosaku Kokeshi is a rare example of the “Ani Kokeshi” (阿仁こけし), a now-discontinued style that originated in Ani, Akita Prefecture. Hand-carved from locally sourced Japanese cedar (杉木 – sugi), this doll embodies the rustic beauty and rich woodgrain that only Akita's famed cedar trees can offer.
