K18048 - Togatta by Kyuichi Omori 大森久一
A Togatta-style kokeshi of Kyuichi Omori, a respected artisan known for his faithful adherence to the traditional forms of the Togatta lineage. Born in 1932 in Miyagi Prefecture, Omori trained under master craftsmen and continued to produce kokeshi dolls into the 21st century, upholding the elegant simplicity that defines the style.
The doll features a cylindrical body with a gently rounded head, painted with a serene expression: finely arched eyebrows, crescent-shaped eyes, and a subtle red mouth. The head is adorned with bold red radial brush strokes, suggesting a floral motif or crown, a signature element of many Togatta dolls.
Kyuichi Omori started making traditional Kokeshi dolls under the tutelage of Tetsuro Sato, but in the early days, his style was sweet and delicate, still influenced by the new style. From the end of the Showa era to the Heisei era, he began to express the rigid and strict style of the Yoshirohei lineage, and his works became more refined. He firmly inherited the styles of Yoshiya and Tetsuro Sato.
