A charming vintage pair of omiyage kokeshi from the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, depicting a traditionally dressed man and woman in a graceful, elongated form.

Both dolls are carved from wood and decorated in a distinctly mid-century souvenir style, combining simple facial features with bright, hand-painted clothing. The male figure wears a soft purple kimono with silver-toned motifs and a traditional topknot-style hairstyle, while the female figure is dressed in a deep green kimono with an orange obi and delicate floral decoration in her hair.

These dolls belong to the tradition of omiyage kokeshi, souvenir kokeshi produced throughout Japan—particularly in the Tōhoku region—for visitors to hot springs, scenic areas and regional tourist destinations. Unlike traditional kokeshi associated with specific hereditary lineages and established regional styles, omiyage kokeshi offered makers greater freedom in form and decoration, often depicting local people, couples or figures in traditional dress.

Displayed together, the two figures create a harmonious pair and beautifully capture the nostalgic charm of Shōwa-era Japanese travel culture and folk souvenir craft.
