This charming vintage Hakata Ningyō 博多人形 is a small Japanese ceramic folk figure, made in the tradition of Hakata-yaki / Hakata dolls from Fukuoka, Kyushu.
The figure has a wonderfully simple, almost childlike form, with a rounded head, softly modelled arms, and a gently tapering body. Its surface is finished in a warm off-white tone and decorated with only a few delicate painted details: tiny dark eyes, red lips, a small floral motif near the head, and colourful little fruits accents around the lower body. The restrained decoration gives the piece a quiet, innocent expression typical of many small folk-inspired Hakata figures.
The figure has a lovely aged patina and visible signs of age and handling. There is some cracking on the head, as shown in the photographs, together with general surface wear consistent with a vintage ceramic object. These imperfections form part of its history and rustic character.
