A charming vintage Japanese dorei (土鈴) clay bell featuring a playful dragon accompanied by a treasure ship motif, known as Takarabune (宝船), a traditional symbol of prosperity, happiness, and good fortune in Japanese culture.

The dragon is depicted in a delightful folk-art style, with a gentle expression, delicate gold-painted details, and a soft white body. Beside it rests a bright golden treasure sack, symbolising wealth and abundance, while the character 宝 (Takara), meaning "treasure," is prominently displayed. Touches of red and a traditional hanging cord complete its cheerful, auspicious appearance.

In Japanese folklore, the Takarabune (Treasure Ship) is traditionally associated with the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin), who sail aboard a treasure-laden vessel bringing blessings, prosperity, and good fortune. The dragon, meanwhile, represents strength, wisdom, protection, and success.

Dorei (土鈴) are traditional Japanese earthenware bells, often crafted in the shapes of zodiac animals, deities, and auspicious symbols. More than simple ornaments, these charming folk crafts have long been appreciated as good-luck charms, particularly during New Year celebrations.

With its expressive design and symbolic richness, this vintage clay bell is a lovely example of Japanese folk craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of traditional engimono (縁起物), zodiac figurines, and Japanese decorative arts.
