CB085 - Japan Clay Bell Dorei from Atsuta Jingū 熱田神宮
This is a traditional clay bell (dorei) from Atsuta Jingū (熱田神宮), one of the most revered Shinto shrines in Japan, located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.
Crafted from unglazed natural clay, the bell features a smooth, spherical form with a hand-tied white braided cord for hanging. Atsuta Jingū (熱田神宮) is one of Japan’s most important Shinto shrines, located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Founded over 1,900 years ago, the shrine is most famous for enshrining the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (草薙の剣) — one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan (三種の神器), symbolizing the divine authority of the emperor.
This type of bell is often sold as an omamori (amulet) or good luck charm, and is believed to offer protection, purify negative energy, and bring blessings from the deity of the shrine. At Atsuta Shrine—home to the sacred sword Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Three Imperial Regalia—such bells embody centuries of deep spiritual and cultural tradition.
