Dorei made by Takeshi Takahashi (高橋毅孖) was an artisan from Kyoto, Japan, known for producing Kiyomizu-style clay figures (Kiyomizu ningyō) and clay bells (土鈴, dorē). His works mainly date from around the early–mid Shōwa period (circa 1950s).

The Gion Mamori Inu is a guardian talisman associated with Kyoto’s famous Yasaka Shrine (Gion Shrine) and is often given as a protective charm for children, safe childbirth, and family well-being. In Japanese folklore, dogs (inu, 犬) symbolize loyalty, protection, and warding off evil spirits, making this bell a powerful amulet of good fortune and security.

Dorei is a traditional handcrafted bell made from clay or ceramic, these bells produce a soft, pleasant sound when shaken. Often sold at shrines or festivals as charms to ward off evil and bring good fortune.
The sound of the bell is believed to purify the surrounding environment and attract positive energy.
