This is the October 2013 issue (No. 543) of Chiisana Tsubomi (小さな蕾), a long-running Japanese monthly magazine dedicated to antiques, traditional crafts, historical art and collecting. Its title, meaning Little Bud, reflects the magazine's appreciation for the subtle beauty and cultural significance of historical objects.

The main feature of this issue is 「京都東山・秋季展スペシャル」 (Kyoto Higashiyama – Autumn Exhibition Special), introducing exhibitions and collections celebrating the rich artistic heritage of Kyoto and East Asia.

One of the highlights is 「野村美術館 開館30周年記念名品展 II」 (Nomura Art Museum – 30th Anniversary Masterpieces Exhibition, Part II). Located in Kyoto, the Nomura Art Museum is renowned for its collection of Japanese and East Asian art, particularly tea ceremony utensils, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy. This special exhibition commemorates the museum's 30th anniversary by presenting selected masterpieces from its collection.

Another featured exhibition is 「泉屋博古館 仏の美術 – ガンダーラから日本まで」 (Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum – Buddhist Art: From Gandhara to Japan), exploring the development of Buddhist artistic traditions across Asia, from the ancient region of Gandhara to Japan. The exhibition highlights the cultural exchanges and artistic influences that shaped Buddhist sculpture and imagery over centuries.

The issue also introduces 「根来 – 朱の世界・前編」 (Negoro – The World of Vermilion, Part I), associated with a special autumn exhibition at the MIHO MUSEUM. This feature explores the distinctive beauty of Negoro-nuri, a traditional Japanese lacquerware technique celebrated for its rich vermilion-red surfaces, dark underlayers and naturally developed patina.
