A striking and unusual vintage Maneki Neko (招き猫) finished in brilliant gold, created as an especially auspicious good-luck figure.

The cat raises one paw in the traditional beckoning gesture and holds a large plaque inscribed 大当リ (ōatari), meaning “big win,” “jackpot,” or “great success.” The expression is closely associated with striking it lucky, winning a prize, or achieving an exceptionally fortunate result, giving this piece a stronger prosperity theme than the more common general-purpose Maneki Neko.

Its entire body is covered in a rich golden finish, a colour strongly connected in Japan with wealth, prosperity, financial luck, and success in business. Red accents on the ears, collar, and claws provide a vivid contrast, while the silver glittered bib adds a distinctly festive, nostalgic character.

The style has a wonderfully bold Shōwa-era appearance, with a rounded body, simplified painted features, elongated raised paw, and highly decorative metallic surface. Compared with more standard ceramic lucky cats, this example has a particularly eye-catching folk-art quality and would have been well suited for display in a shop, pachinko parlour, lottery-related setting, or business hoping to attract good fortune.

In Japanese popular culture, Maneki Neko are classic engi-mono (縁起物)—auspicious objects believed to invite luck, customers, prosperity, and favorable opportunities. Combined with the inscription 大当リ, this golden example becomes an especially direct symbol of good fortune, winning, and financial success.
