A beautiful Japanese Shigaraki Ware (信楽焼) ceramic figurine, depicting a powerful wild boar (Inoshishi, 猪), crafted by Shindō (信道).
This expressive sculpture captures the strength and determination of a wild boar in motion, with its head lowered, prominent tusks, and carefully sculpted fur. The rich earthy brown glaze highlights the detailed textures of the animal's body, creating a lively and naturalistic appearance.
Shigaraki Ware (信楽焼) is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns (Rokkoyō), with a pottery tradition dating back to the medieval period. Originating in Shiga Prefecture, Shigaraki ceramics are celebrated for their rustic character, earthy tones, and close connection to Japanese nature and folk traditions.
In Japanese culture, the wild boar is one of the twelve zodiac animals (Eto, 干支), representing courage, determination, perseverance, and forward momentum. Its fearless character makes it a traditional symbol of strength and good fortune, particularly during the Year of the Boar.
The figurine is presented on a glossy black display base, accompanied by its original wooden presentation box (Tomobako, 共箱), bearing Japanese calligraphy and the maker's name.
