A charming vintage Ryukyu doll (琉球人形) keychain from Okinawa (沖縄), inspired by the distinctive culture of the former Ryukyu Kingdom.
The red characters 「琉球」 (Ryūkyū) identify the cultural origin of the piece. Ryūkyū refers to the historic Ryukyu Kingdom, which flourished in the Okinawan Islands for several centuries before Okinawa became part of modern Japan. Situated between Japan, China, and Southeast Asia, the kingdom developed a distinctive culture shaped by centuries of maritime trade and cultural exchange. Traditional costume, dance, music, lacquerware, pottery, and brightly coloured textiles remain important symbols of Okinawan identity today.
