TB288 - Akae pot yakumi-ire 赤絵

Neverused. This charming vintage Akae (赤絵) yakumi-ire 薬味入れ is a beautifully handcrafted Japanese ceramic container adorned with a delicate 花鳥カメ (“kachō-kame”) motif — a traditional decorative style inspired by flowers, birds, and auspicious natural forms. Rendered in warm iron-red overglaze enamel with soft green accents, the flowing botanical design wraps gracefully around the vessel, giving it a gentle and refined folk-art character.

The piece features a rounded form with a fitted lid, finished in a soft milky glaze accented by earthy kiln-fired tones around the rim. Its tactile brushwork and subtle irregularities reflect the warmth of handmade Japanese pottery and the enduring charm of everyday tableware crafted with artistic care.

Traditionally, 薬味入れ (yakumi-ire) were used to store condiments, pickles, spices, or small toppings such as sesame, ginger, scallions, or shichimi pepper in both Japanese homes and restaurants. Functional yet decorative, these small vessels embody the Japanese appreciation for beauty in daily life.

A lovely piece for collectors of Japanese ceramics, rustic tableware, or lovers of traditional Akae pottery aesthetics. It also works beautifully as a small tea-table accessory or decorative container.
