This set of five small rectangular plates is crafted in the traditional Akazu-yaki (赤津焼) style, a historic Japanese ceramic tradition renowned for its refined glazes and hand-painted decoration. Each plate features a delicately rendered “Ninsei Traveling Figure” (仁清道中人形) motif, playful, stylized figures depicted in motion, evoking scenes of Edo-period travel and everyday life.
The figures are hand-painted with expressive brushwork and soft, muted colors, accented by subtle iron-black linework and warm enamel highlights. The creamy white glaze provides a gentle, luminous background, while each plate bears an artist’s seal, underscoring its handcrafted authenticity. No two plates are exactly alike, giving the set a warm, artisanal character.
On every plate, the artist’s signature Saidō (彩堂) appears along with a red seal mark, affirming the maker’s hand. The set comes with its original wooden storage box, also inscribed, adding authenticity and a touch of tradition.
