K15101 - “Spring” Sosaku by Takahashi Akinori 高橋昭倫 「春」
This Sosaku Kokeshi, titled 「春」(Spring), is the work of contemporary kokeshi artist Takahashi Akinori 高橋 昭倫, son of the renowned Takahashi Hashime.
Expertly turned and hand-painted, figures evoke the freshness and joy of springtime with their softly smiling faces and blossoming plum branches adorning the vibrant red body. Symbolizing fleeting beauty and renewal, often associated with perseverance and quiet strength, marking the transition from winter to spring in Japan.
Akinori-san is an accomplished but selective artisan based in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. He began his kokeshi-making career in homage to his father and has since made a name for himself with beautifully minimal yet expressive designs. His production is notably limited, which makes each of his creations highly collectible.
In addition to his kokeshi craft, Akinori has shared his artistry internationally, conducting kokeshi painting workshops at cultural events in France (1998) and Taiwan (2002). Though he carries forward the artistic style of his father, Akinori has introduced seasonal themes and nature motifs into his work, including pieces inspired by the Tanabata Festival, zodiac animals, and natural elements from the Japanese landscape.
This "Spring" beautifully expresses seasonal transition and joy, making it a perfect gift or collector’s item to celebrate new beginnings.
