This charming hand-painted Eto Ittobori (干支一刀彫) figurine represents the boar (inoshishi), the twelfth sign of the Japanese zodiac, crafted with refined folk artistry rooted in Kyoto tradition. The boar stands proudly on a glossy black base, its form softly rounded and full of character. This particular piece has been blessed at Jishu Jinja (地主神社), a historic shrine in Kyoto revered for its associations with matchmaking, protection from misfortune, and fulfillment of wishes. As noted in the accompanying inscription, this figure has undergone prayer rites to invoke happiness and fortune, making it not just a zodiac ornament but also a spiritual talisman.
