FT267 - Shofuku Eto – Yakushigama 薬師窯

This pair of snake figurines is part of the Shōfuku Eto (招福干支) zodiac series by Yakushigama (薬師窯), crafted by the skilled ceramic artist Shōhō (昭峰). Representing the Year of the Snake (巳年), these figures are designed to bring happiness, prosperity, and longevity into the home—core themes in traditional Japanese seasonal decoration.

Yakushigama, a renowned kiln with over 1,000 years of ceramic heritage, is known throughout Japan for its exquisite folk art and celebratory figurines. Their work combines artistry and symbolism, making each piece both decorative and meaningful.

The larger white snake holds a golden coin inscribed with the character 福 (fuku), meaning “good fortune.” Its elegant tail curls gracefully into a loop, while the body is adorned with red plum blossoms and a band of vibrant washi-inspired pattern. The smaller red snake cradles a gold coin marked 寿 (kotobuki), meaning “longevity,” and is accented with white dotted blossoms.
