This vintage Japanese exhibition book, titled “Ōdachi to Kodōgu” (大太刀と小道具), meaning “Large Swords and Sword Fittings,” was published in 1994 (Heisei 6) by the Cultural Department of Atsuta Shrine (熱田神宮) in Nagoya, Japan.

Dedicated to the history and artistry of traditional Japanese swords, this catalogue explores the impressive craftsmanship of Ōdachi (大太刀), exceptionally long Japanese swords historically associated with samurai warriors, as well as Kodōgu (小道具), the intricate metal fittings and decorative accessories used in Japanese sword mounting.

Featuring photographic documentation of historical artefacts alongside scholarly commentary supervised by renowned Japanese sword expert Nobuo Ogasawara (小笠原信夫), the publication offers insights into Japanese sword-making traditions, military history, and the artistic techniques employed by skilled metalworkers.

The cover features a striking historical illustration of mounted samurai warriors wearing elaborate armour, reflecting the martial heritage and visual culture of feudal Japan.
