Vintage item, never used. A charming Japanese yunomi tea cup (湯呑) from the Shimanami Kaidō (しまなみ海道), created as a regional souvenir piece celebrating one of Japan’s most scenic coastal routes.

The cup has a softly rounded cylindrical form finished in a rich deep cobalt-blue glaze, with bold white lettering wrapping around the body. The inscription reads 「しまなみ海道」, directly referring to the famous Shimanami Kaidō route.

The Shimanami Kaidō links Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture with Imabari in Ehime Prefecture, crossing the Seto Inland Sea through a chain of islands connected by bridges. It is especially known for its beautiful sea views, island scenery and cycling route, and has become one of the most recognizable travel destinations in western Japan.

The strong contrast between the glossy blue ground and the white characters gives the cup a graphic, almost calligraphic appearance, while the simple form keeps the focus on the regional inscription.

As a yunomi, it is suitable for serving sencha, bancha, hōjicha or other Japanese teas. Beyond everyday use, it also makes a nice collectible example of Japanese regional souvenir ceramics (omiyage), preserving a connection to travel culture and local identity.
