TB354 - Japan Lacquer Sakazuki cups 御盃
A beautiful vintage set of Japanese lacquer sakazuki cups — traditional ceremonial sake cups often used for special occasions, New Year celebrations, weddings, and festive gatherings.
The set includes three nesting cups in graduated sizes, finished in a deep glossy red lacquer. Each cup is decorated with one of the auspicious golden kanji characters: 福・禄・寿.
福 means good fortune and happiness, 禄 represents prosperity, status, and blessings, while 寿 means longevity and celebration. Together, 福禄寿 is a classic Japanese auspicious expression, symbolising happiness, prosperity, and long life.
The elegant shallow form and raised foot are typical of sakazuki 御盃, used for sipping sake in a formal or symbolic way. When stacked together, the cups create a refined display piece with a beautiful contrast between the rich red lacquer and gold calligraphy.
A charming piece of Japanese lacquerware, perfect for collectors, festive table settings, New Year decoration, or as a symbolic gift of good luck and celebration.
