This vintage omiyage kokeshi comes from the Tōhoku region of northern Japan, an area deeply associated with kokeshi culture and traditional woodcraft. Unlike conventional painted kokeshi, this piece combines turned wood with a textile-covered body, giving it a particularly warm and distinctive character.
The doll has a softly rounded head with a serene, downcast expression, delicately painted hair and restrained facial details. Its cylindrical body is wrapped in dark woven fabric decorated with fine white lines and a small red accent, creating the impression of a local. The natural wood remains visible around the neck, shoulders and base, highlighting the contrast between the smooth turned surface and the texture of the textile.
