A vintage Omiyage Kokeshi titled Musume Junrei (娘巡礼), meaning Young Female Pilgrim, originating from Sanjō Ōhashi (三条大橋) in Kyoto, Japan.

This delightful wooden doll features a rounded, gently smiling face with delicate black hair styled in a traditional Japanese updo, adorned with a beautiful pink floral hair ornament.

About Sanjō Ōhashi located across the Kamo River in Kyoto, Sanjō Ōhashi is one of Japan's historically significant bridges. During the Edo period, it marked the western terminus of the Tōkaidō (東海道), the famous highway connecting Kyoto and Edo (modern-day Tokyo).

For centuries, the bridge welcomed travellers, merchants, and pilgrims arriving in Kyoto. Its historical connection with travel makes it a fitting subject for this charming souvenir doll.

The name Musume Junrei (娘巡礼) evokes the tradition of young female pilgrims travelling to sacred temples and shrines, reflecting the cultural and spiritual significance of journeys in historical Japan.
