This elegant vintage Eto (干支) Dragon figurine was produced by Tachikichi (たち吉), one of Kyoto's most respected ceramic makers. Founded in 1752 during the Edo period, Tachikichi has over 260 years of history, earning a reputation for creating refined tableware and decorative ceramics that harmoniously blend traditional Japanese craftsmanship with timeless, understated design. The clean monochrome finish of this dragon beautifully reflects the brand's signature aesthetic—simple, elegant, and enduring.

Representing the Dragon (辰 / Tatsu), the fifth animal of the Japanese zodiac, this sculpture symbolizes strength, wisdom, prosperity, good fortune, and success. Unlike the fearsome dragons of Western mythology, the Japanese dragon is regarded as a benevolent guardian associated with rainfall, rivers, abundance, and divine protection. Zodiac ornaments such as this are traditionally displayed during the New Year to welcome blessings and invite a prosperous year ahead, while remaining meaningful decorative pieces throughout the year for those born under the Dragon sign.

Presented on its original display stand with its original presentation box, this figurine is a wonderful example of late 20th-century Japanese decorative ceramics. It makes a meaningful gift for collectors of zodiac art, admirers of Kyoto craftsmanship, or anyone wishing to celebrate the enduring symbolism of the Dragon.

Please be aware that some scratches on the base are visible due to ageing.
