This charming 1980s Japanese souvenir is a wooden perpetual calendar from Onigajō (鬼ヶ城), a celebrated coastal landmark within Yoshino-Kumano National Park in Mie Prefecture. Onigajō, meaning “Ogre’s Castle,” is known for its dramatic rock formations shaped over millions of years by uplift, wind and sea erosion.

Crafted in dark-toned wood, the calendar features movable sections for adjusting the month, date and day of the week, allowing it to be reused year after year. The design is decorated with stylised white linework inspired by the rugged coastal scenery, while a small metal bell hangs beneath, adding the character of a traditional Japanese travel keepsake.

The inscription reads 吉野熊野国立公園 鬼ヶ城, meaning “Onigajō, Yoshino-Kumano National Park,” and 万年カレンダー, meaning “perpetual calendar.” A nostalgic and practical example of Japanese regional souvenir craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of vintage folk objects, travel memorabilia and Shōwa-era decorative pieces.
