CB396 - Yunomi Tea Cups of Tamao Nakamura 中村玉緒
Vintage item, never used. A pair of Japanese yunomi tea cups (湯呑) bearing the name Nakamura Tamao 中村玉緒, decorated with an elegant momiji 紅葉 (Japanese maple leaf) motif.
Tamao Nakamura (中村玉緒, 1939–2026) was a prominent Japanese actress who came from a distinguished lineage connected with the traditional world of Kabuki theatre. In addition to her long career in film, television and variety entertainment, her name was also used for artistic and lifestyle collaborations. The “Shiki Yubi” tableware collection, represented by the original box accompanying this set, was one such licensed ceramic project produced in collaboration with Japanese pottery manufacturers.
The momiji 紅葉, or Japanese maple, is one of Japan’s most beloved symbols of autumn. Its brilliant changing leaves are closely associated with kisetsukan (季節感)—the Japanese sensitivity to the changing seasons—and with momijigari (紅葉狩り), the traditional custom of going out to admire autumn foliage. Their fleeting beauty also lends the design a gentle sense of transience and seasonal elegance.
