A charming vintage ox dorei clay bell by Tachikichi (たち吉), this playful piece depicts a white ox / cow (丑 / ushi) with a cheerful expression, rounded body, and a bright red harness. Two large golden straw rice bales (俵 / tawara) are carried on its back, giving the figure a particularly auspicious character. The combination of white, red, and gold creates a festive appearance closely associated with traditional Japanese New Year decoration.
The ox is one of the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac and is traditionally associated with patience, diligence, reliability, and steady progress. The rice bales are equally symbolic: in Japan, rice has long represented prosperity, abundance, and a plentiful harvest, making this design especially rich in good-luck meaning.
