TB214 - Set of Lidded Bowls of Wajima-nuri 輪島塗
Never used. This refined set of Wajima-nuri 輪島塗 lidded bowls features an elegant 鉄仙蒔絵 (Tessen maki-e) design, showcasing the timeless beauty of traditional Japanese lacquerware.
Crafted in Wajima, Ishikawa Prefecture — one of Japan’s most prestigious lacquerware regions — these bowls embody the exceptional quality and durability for which Wajima-nuri is renowned. Built through multiple layers of lacquer over a carefully prepared base, the surface achieves a deep, mirror-like black finish that feels both smooth and substantial in hand.
Each bowl is delicately adorned with tessen (clematis) blossoms rendered in maki-e technique. Soft pink and red petals bloom gracefully across the glossy black ground, accompanied by flowing gold vines and leaves. The subtle gold accents catch the light beautifully, creating a gentle contrast against the rich lacquer surface.
The set includes five lidded bowls, each with a perfectly fitted cover that preserves warmth and enhances presentation. Ideal for serving soups, simmered dishes, chawanmushi, or seasonal specialties, these bowls elevate both everyday meals and formal occasions.
Presented in their original wooden tomobako (storage box), inscribed with “鉄仙蒔絵 小吸椀,” this set is a fine example of Wajima craftsmanship — elegant, durable, and timeless. A beautiful addition to any collection of traditional Japanese lacquerware.
