Vintage item, never used. A charming Tachikichi たち吉 tea cup set, featuring an auspicious Year of the Dragon (辰) design inspired by the traditional Japanese ema (絵馬) votive plaque.
Each cup has a clean white porcelain body with a simple, elegant yunomi form. On the front is a stylized ema-shaped panel depicting a colorful dragon, accompanied by the characters 「招福」 (shōfuku), meaning “inviting good fortune”, and 「辰歳」, referring to the Year of the Dragon. The two cups are subtly distinguished by their colored details, with one accented in warm red and the other in green-blue, making them a harmonious pair.
In Japanese culture, ema are small wooden plaques traditionally offered at Shinto shrines, on which wishes and prayers are written. Zodiac animals are a popular motif, especially around the New Year, and the dragon (辰 / tatsu) is associated with strength, vitality, ambition and good fortune. Combined with the phrase 招福, the decoration gives this set a particularly auspicious character.
