A striking vintage Japanese amber glass ashtray by SOGA GLASS (曽我ガラス), presented with its original box and retaining its original maker and retailer labels.
Made from thick, substantial pressed glass, the ashtray has a beautiful amber colour 琥珀 (kohakuiro) — amber / amber-brown glass colour. This warm honey-toned shade catches the light beautifully and gives the piece a rich, nostalgic glow. Its bold faceted sides and scalloped geometric rim create a strong Showa-era retro appearance, while the integrated rests around the edge were designed to hold cigarettes.
The base features a radiating pressed-glass pattern that adds depth and brilliance when viewed from above. The original “SOGA GLASS JAPAN” label remains attached, identifying it as Japanese glassware by Soga Glass. Also retained is an original Mitsukoshi 三越 department-store label marked 高松三越 (Takamatsu Mitsukoshi), suggesting that the piece was originally retailed through the Takamatsu branch of Mitsukoshi.
The combination of amber colour glass, heavy construction and geometric moulding gives this ashtray a particularly elegant mid-century Japanese character.
