Vintage item, never used. A Mino-yaki 美濃焼 yunomi (湯呑), made in the traditional ceramic region of Mino, Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan’s most important pottery-producing areas.

The cup has a simple, slightly flared cylindrical form finished in a soft off-white glaze. Small iron speckles, subtle surface texture and natural variations in the glaze give the piece a warm, handmade character, while the gently irregular rim adds to its understated rustic appeal.

The front bears a black commemorative inscription reading 「じゃこぼ近江舞子 竣工記念」, indicating that the cup was produced as a inauguration commemorative piece connected with Ōmi-Maiko. Such specially commissioned ceramics were often created in Japan to mark the opening or completion of buildings, businesses, facilities or other important projects, giving the vessel an additional piece of local history beyond its everyday function.

Designed as a traditional yunomi, it is ideal for serving sencha, bancha, hōjicha or other Japanese teas. Its restrained form and lightly textured white glaze also make it an attractive example of everyday Japanese pottery.
The piece comes with its original blue storage box.

Size: 9 x 9 x 10cm
