This is a vintage Akahada-yaki Futaoki 赤膚焼 蓋置, a ceramic lid rest used in the Japanese tea ceremony. A futaoki is placed beside the kettle during tea preparation and is used to rest the kettle lid or bamboo ladle.

The piece has a simple cylindrical form with a hollow centre, making it both practical and elegant. Its warm cream-toned glaze is decorated with charming hand-painted motifs in red, black, yellow, and blue. The design includes small figures and a tea-related scene, giving the piece a gentle folk-art feeling. The red horizontal lines around the body add a refined decorative rhythm.

Akahada-yaki 赤膚焼 is a traditional ceramic ware from Nara Prefecture. It is known for its soft clay body, warm glaze tones, and charming painted decoration, often connected with tea culture and the refined taste of the Yamato region. Many Akahada pieces are appreciated for their calm, approachable beauty and subtle handmade character.

Although originally made as a tea ceremony utensil, this piece can also be displayed as a small ceramic object, used as a napkin ring, or enjoyed as part of a Japanese table setting.

A lovely item for collectors of Chadō 茶道 utensils, Akahada ware, Japanese ceramics, or vintage tea ceremony objects.
