This 90s shikishi print from Kasuga Taisha 春日大社 features a bold and colorful boar motif on a pale shikishi board. The red shrine stamp 春日神社 appears at the lower left, marking its connection to Kasuga Taisha, one of Nara’s most historic and important Shinto shrines.

The artwork depicts a stylized wild boar / inoshishi 猪, painted in a cheerful folk-art style with warm brown, bright red, yellow, green, and black details. The boar is shown together with fresh green leaves, giving the composition a lively and auspicious feeling. The calligraphy 招福 means “inviting good fortune,” making this piece a charming lucky item for display.

In Japanese zodiac symbolism, the boar / i 亥 represents courage, determination, honesty, vitality, and strong forward-moving energy. As the final animal of the twelve zodiac cycle, it can also symbolize completion, renewal, and the strength to move confidently toward a new beginning.

The simple composition, shrine stamp, and bright colors give this shikishi a nostalgic character, making it a lovely piece for collectors of Japanese shikishi art, Kasuga Taisha shrine items, zodiac boar motifs, folk-style prints, or auspicious Japanese decoration.

This piece belongs to a 90s zodiac shikishi series from Kasuga Taisha. Other zodiac animals from the same series are also available, though the full set of twelve years is not complete, so each piece is sold separately. Please feel free to contact me if you are looking for another zodiac animal from this series.
