This elegant Sōsaku Kokeshi titled Chigozakura (稚児桜) was created by Watanabe Masao (渡辺正雄, 1917–2007), one of the most respected figures in the world of creative kokeshi. The title Chigozakura can be translated as “Child Cherry Blossom” or “Young Sakura,” evoking the image of youthful innocence and the fleeting beauty of spring. The softly rounded head, delicately painted eyes, and tiny red lips create an expression of serene introspection, while the smooth, flowing silhouette conveys grace and balance.
