This vintage omiyage kokeshi was created as a souvenir of Hirayu Onsen (平湯温泉), one of Japan's oldest and most celebrated hot spring resorts, nestled in the Okuhida Onsen Villages of Gifu Prefecture. Surrounded by the majestic Northern Japanese Alps, Hirayu has welcomed travellers for centuries, offering restorative hot springs and breathtaking mountain scenery throughout the seasons.
At its centre is a beautifully hand-painted illustration of a traditional gasshō-zukuri farmhouse, the iconic steeply thatched architecture associated with the Hida region and nearby Shirakawa-go. This picturesque landscape captures the nostalgic charm of rural Japan and makes the doll a wonderful keepsake of the region.
