A striking Japanese Dragon (辰) zodiac figurine made by Yakushigama (薬師窯), featuring a bold yet wonderfully simplified interpretation of the dragon, one of the most auspicious creatures in East Asian tradition.

The dragon is sculpted with a long, expressive head rising from a rounded, coiled body. Its surface is finished in a vivid vermillion red, enriched with softly applied gold accents that highlight the face, body and tail. The minimal black eye and restrained detailing give the piece a particularly charming folk-art character, balancing the dragon’s traditional power with a warm and approachable appearance.

The Dragon (辰 / Tatsu) is the fifth animal of the Japanese zodiac (eto / 干支). Unlike the other zodiac animals, it is a mythical creature and has long been regarded as a symbol of strength, vitality, success and good fortune. Dragon ornaments are therefore popular as auspicious New Year decorations and as talismans wishing for prosperity and positive progress.

Crafted by Yakushigama (薬師窯), a remnowned Japanese ceramic maker rooted in the historic pottery traditions of Seto, Aichi Prefecture, an area with more than a thousand years of ceramic history. Yakushigama is particularly celebrated for its traditional zodiac figures and other colourful, folk-inspired lucky ornaments.
