A beautiful vintage Japanese Kake Fukusa (掛け袱紗), a traditional decorative textile used to cover ceremonial gifts during formal occasions and celebrations in Japan.

This elegant double-sided Fukusa (両面袱紗) features intricate woven textures in deep green and ivory, with a traditional shibori-inspired pattern and decorative tassels at the four corners.

One side displays the auspicious kanji 寿 (Kotobuki), symbolising longevity, congratulations, and good fortune. The reverse features a richly detailed traditional motif, adding a sense of refinement and elegance.

In Japanese culture, Fukusa cloths are closely associated with the etiquette of gift-giving, particularly during weddings, anniversaries, and other auspicious occasions. The Kake Fukusa is traditionally placed over a gift or presentation tray as a gesture of respect and goodwill.

The combination of its symbolic design, intricate textile craftsmanship, and reversible construction makes this piece a lovely example of Japanese ceremonial textile traditions.

Presented in its original decorative storage box, it is a charming collectible for enthusiasts of Japanese vintage textiles and traditional folk culture. It can also be appreciated as a decorative textile or displayed as a piece of Japanese fabric art.
