This April 2021 issue (No. 535) of Me no Me (目の眼) comes from the long-running Japanese magazine dedicated to antiques, traditional crafts, archaeology, fine art, and the culture of collecting. Founded in 1977, Me no Me is known for its beautifully photographed features that introduce historic objects and private or museum collections to Japanese art enthusiasts.
The main feature of this issue is 「古代エジプト美術 コレクション探訪」 – “Ancient Egyptian Art: Exploring Collections.” Through richly illustrated articles, the magazine examines the extraordinary artistic legacy of ancient Egypt, presenting sculpture, funerary objects, painted coffins, and other antiquities while exploring the collections in which these objects are preserved.
One of the striking objects featured inside is an anthropoid Egyptian coffin, elaborately painted with religious imagery and hieroglyphic decoration.
