After his family returned from Akita to Naruko in 1950, he was born the following year. At age seventeen, in 1967, he began training in woodcarving under his uncle Takahashi Morio. He first worked as a Takakan craftsman, turning base wood for kokeshi, and around 1982 began producing his own signed works.
