Though he initially worked in farming, Yoshitaro began woodturning under the guidance of his cousin Niiyama Fukuo in 1972, and by 1975 had become independent as a kokeshi artisan while still maintaining his work in agriculture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis piece showcases the classic features of the Yajirō kokeshi tradition: a tall form with a flared base, a slender waist, and vivid bands of red, purple, and green around the body.
